Hi guys, My name is Walker, I live in California, USA and I was just diagnosed with POF at 39. Had breast cancer at 36 but no chemo. My children were 8 months old and 3 years old at the time. Because I caught it early, I just had to have bilateral mastectomies--I tested negative for both BRCA-1 and BRCA-2 genes so I was not told to have my ovaries removed. No radiation, no medication---just the surgeries. Now that I'm smack dab in the middle of "POF" (such a lovely term) I am wondering about risks of recurrence or of other gynecological cancers. Should I urge my oncologist or OB/GYN to take out alll the plumbing?
Lastly, do you have neuropathy--moderate to severe pain all over?
I look forward to hearing from you--
failing ovaries here in sunny California!!!
POF and Breast Cancer
Hello,
As I am not a medic, I am not in a position to be give you medical advice, however in reply to your question to having your ovaries removed, I have had this surgery performed as part of my hysterectomy, which plunged me into a sudden premature menopause, which 3 years later I am still struggling with, both physically and psychologically.
My feeling is that surgical removal of both ovaries, should always be preceded by counselling, and should be a last resort.
I hope this is of some help
Best wishes
Ruth
